Last week we have been training how to use instrumentation in Twente in preparation for the larger Portugal field courses. This included doing discharge measurements in the Dinkel River, determining the water and salt balances using hydrochemistry, making soil physical methods to determine permeability, porosity, soil moisture content, and unsaturated flow direction, and determining the geology of the area using geo-electrical methods.

On the last day we did a pumping test with all participants of the course. The large pump failed so we had to use a smaller gasoline powered pump to get the water out of the pumping well, but it worked fine.

The Algarve field course in Portugal starts on Monday 21 May.
